Attrition
I understand that there are some some student's that have legit reason's for having to withdraw from school, but what do we do if our retention rate is affected by this? the Department of Education does not take in consideration that there was no way for us to keep these student's enrolled not even putting these student on leave of absences, they still do not return.
I believe that support and help from the teacher and other staff is very beneficial. However I also think that some matters cannot be fixed and unfortunately students sometimes drop out.
Why is strategic; how tactical. Developing a tactic that solves a problem may only be a short-term fix. The student must develop a strategy that is sustainable.
We also struggle with the same issue. However, I learned from my manager that we shouldn't focus so much on the why but on how to overcome it. Now what I do is listen to the problem then say how can we continue with this and school. Then I mention the reasons that they are here. Most often they realize that they can work it out. I truly believe that at times they need the positive push along with someone to listen without judging. I have noticed that my attrition has improved using this technique
We struggle with this as well. There are some life circumstances that a school cannot help with or fix and we just have to deal with the student dropping out or taking a leave of absence.
