STRESSING ME OUT

I am so happy for find out how to convince a student to stay in school. I often wondered why a student would quit school in the final day. Now I know.
I hope this information helps me to save the future of an Academic Stagnation student.

All responsible staff should be involved in retaining the students.

One of the things I have done in my class is to help the new student's with 15 minutes of study tips note taking and how to take test.

Reynaldo, if you are able to clearly identify these dates it seems to me that you should be able to also identify ways to reduce the impact.

It appears to me that stressor onset is the day of the midterm and the onset shock is the day students receive their midterm grade. Some students planning to drop talk to professor about possible options but unfortunately most of them do not.

Good work, Nicole. It must have felt good to see them graduate and get started in a career.

I have a few students that I have had to convince to stay in my program and every time they always come back and thank me because they realize that dropping out of school will not make the problem go away.

I believe that the onset level is the most impulsive, and many times the student does not want to hear what we have to say. I also agree that if we make the effort to really talk with the student and convince them to stay by offering help or suggesting solutions, they are the most thankful in the end.

Listening to the student and really being genuine in your wishes to help identify and solve the problem. Many times the problem is not knowing how to study effectively. So trouble shooting this so they can use their time wisely can solve the stress.

When we take time and listen to the student and provide them with different and positive options to deal with the stressor in their life, this can be of great benefit to the student.

It is extremly disheartening to see a student at a point of giving up. A lot of the time I have noticed it is hard to get them to re-group and stay. In my short time working in a school setting, those who stay are very grateful in the end.

Cynthia, do you have any particularly techniques you use to help students through the initial stages of a problem?

When students hit the onset shock level it is really hard to convince the student to stay. But when we do convince them to take more time to work it out they always come back grateful for convincing them to stay.

I understand what is actually happening, good course.

Glad to hear the information was useful for you, Vanessa. It's still tragic when a student decides to fail at the eleventh hour. Good luck addressing academic stagnation.
