As an instructor you have the power to make a huge impact in your students life. It starts by approaching your students everyday with a positive and helpful attitude. Your students feed off of your mood and attitude. If they perceive your classroom as a positive and safe environment they will WANT to be there. They will also be more likely to let you know when things are happening in their lives that may have a negative affect on their performance in school. You can then be proactive by relaying this information to your direct supervisor or the Dean so there can be a "safety net" put around that student. When students know that you care they will reciprocate those feelings and persist in school.
