Intervention

i feel sometimes that trying to intervene feels like prying to the students and they put up their defanse mechanisms and with draw.

I think that listening and letting the student just talk to you helps.

When you pry into there privet life you my get more then you bargen for

I to have had students with draw, I also tell them that they may be able to get help from student services.

It does show "we care". if a student needs help away from home they may look for our help

How do you show you care?

I think that being realistic and straightforward with students will help them respect and trust you. I have delt with people in different situations and each time the common link to trust and respect is honesty. The answers may not be what you hope they would be, but having an understanding of behaviors may lead to changes and better outcomes.

What are your thoughts, Mark? Do you have any ideas to offer? A student's response may be a reaction to the way the offer was extended or their perception of the instructor's sincerity.

good thoughts vince i feel the same way got any Ideas.

You just have to keep showing that you care
