How to help students stay connected
Ive been teaching for 5 years and maybe had to clearthe room 3 times due to individual flare ups and twice due to student conflicts between eachother.
David, how often do you have to clear the room of other students? Is this because of conflict among students or an individual flare up?
In all honesty I use humor to break the cycle with my students. I have a way of getting them to open up to me. My students know that I am here for them and I am always willing to listen.
If there is an outburst of emotion I clear the room of other students and try to figure out what teh sourc eof the problem is.
I find, sitting down next to them helps me . We are both at the same level it helps to connect.

I try to connect by finding something they know like movies and make reflection from it so they have something to relate too with me
