Do you require a written report after the field trip? Do you assign topics for students to investigate before you go?
I think that field trips are a great idea to correlate theory with reality. I take my students to recording studios so that they can see the machines being utilized in real world.
I agree with you about the value of field trips. It can really open students' eyes and help them understand what you are telling them in the classroom.
How do you handle the logistics? Are students expected to find their own transportation? How do you handle attendance? Do you have a dress code? Do they have to submit a report about the experiance? Do you have to get permission from your department head or the administration before you can go?
