telling students what is in it for them

I would absolutly agree. Explaining why it is crucial to understand something and how others have benifited from knowledge or fallen behind from the lack of. One of the biggest things I share with my classes are the struggles that I went through and experiences that I had that they are going to be better equipped to handle because of the information I am presenting to them.

Telling the students what is in it for them and their carrer choice, and what to expect from their decisions. It they know why and how it will help them, they are much more willing to move forward in a positive direction.
