STUDENT FITTING IN

Most student are not comfortable at school because they feel that other students will look at them diferently or feel like an outcast. As instructors we need to reasure students that everthing will be ok just keep their focus on their goal.

My goal is to treat every student with respect and kindness. Thanks,
Denise

Ruthie,

Love the three 'C' scenario...easy way to remember these critical points!

I agree that we need to help students find comfort in the school, the classroom and in some situations, a new community. Helping the students from out of town interact with students who know more about the area, having a few more socially-interactive (educational) experiences - for new students to meet others and having a "student advisor"... or an ex student who can address similar experiences, can all be great helps.

I learned once upon a time that students had to have 3 C's to be successful: 1. Capable - feel capable of the work, 2. Connected - to teacher and others, and to feel they can contribute in the environment and. 3. Challenged - that they are learning new, valuable information that they didn't already know.

Makes sense.

sadie,

Do you use any especially effective tactics to do this?
