Classmates are 'smarter'

Being a recent graduate I can say this was one of my fears on the first day of school. The way to diffuse this is by group activities, both social and academic related.

I agree- the sooner students begin to interact with other students and the instructor in varied ways, the sooner they will see that they are an equal member of the class. They'll also realize that most,if not all of their fellow students and instructor, have had similar doubts (which can put them at ease).

Colleen,

LOL Big fish, small pond! Unfortunately, many students like you don't develop good study habits because they didn't have to in high school.

It was just the opposite with me. I was a really smart kid that went to a great high school and made good grades without trying. Then I went to Purdue University where the smartest of the smart went and I discovered I wasn't so smart after all! What a shock! I actually had to study!

I agree. No matter how old we are we always worry that we will not be able to compete. Are we smart enough? Do we have the right stuff? Do we fit in? It's a normal human feeling. I believe everyone deals with those feelings at sometime in their life.
