Student Orientation

I agree that their should be a time proven method employed by the school or any institution that gives a new student/employee all the information and resources available he/she needs to make their new experience comfortable for them.

James--

You bring up a good point about making it fresh for staff as well. We need to be energized, students pick up on that. There are many ways to present the needed information. Constant refinement and improvement is important.

I also beleive that the orientation needs to evolve so you don't keep doing the same things all the time: keep it interesting for both the new student and the staff running it.

Yes, it needs to be helpfu and organized. Most of my adult studnets don't care for all the fluff and party sucha as at another school. They want it engaging and informative. I just dont' see how loading them down with evrything helps themt o be ready the first day. At our school wwe give them uniforms and and then books the first day. One as not to increas Bad debt, if they aren't coming-- As the first quiz question of mine was -- Never assume just because they enroll they start.

So I think giving them some things but not over loading them to scare them off is important too.

Yes. Do you remember your first day of beauty school? You were filled with questions, excitement, and fear all at once. With a productive orientation, it helps every new student who is feeling this or anything else to be more comfortable and confident in their new environment and institution. Staff, graduates, and everyone else at the school should welcome and provide accurate information to the new students on orientation day.

I also agree that the student should have the attention of the available staff during orientation to help them feel more confident about the school.
