institutional connection
students seem overwhelmed with all the info provided at orientation.Let's believe in them as much as they believe in us!

These informal and personal interactions really make a positive difference and let students know we truly care. Great job!

"I think that walking the halls is a great way to build that institutional connection causally. I walk around between classes and always make it a point to greet students and ask them how they are doing whether I know them personally or not. I think that is an important component of continuing that welcoming atmosphere we set the tone for in orientation. Eventually students get to know me because they see me in the hall on their way to classes." I agree with the above statement, as the students progress thru our classes I will see them in the hall way, and always say hi, how are things doing. Some of the ones that I know have had struggles, I always inquire as to how the class is going, can I help? This seems to allow me to connect to the students all of the time.
Victoria--
This sounds like an excellent process of building relationships with students and I'm sure they come to see you as someone very approachable.

Timothy--
That is really awesome that you are specifically watching for students who needs some extra support.
Susan
It is always great to fell connected to the school. Sometimes that identification does not occur until the student finds a mentor. I am always on the lookout for those lost souls wandering the hallways!
I think that orientation is the first critical step in the students success, when they leave they should feel confident and prepared to start their training.
Aaron--
Right! Challenged and excited. It's good if they feel like they will be challenged. They don't want it to be too easy. They don't want to feel like they will never be able to succeed either.
Susan
I think a student should leave out of orientation feeling challenged not overwhelmed.
Great statement, I know that every day we try to keep that beleif going, even when it is difficult on some days.Hopefully those days are few.
