orientation
It is extremely important for students to find out where the departments are in the institution they are attending. This can save them time and anxiety.
Agree, again i think knowledge is power. the more the student knows the better will be for the class, experience, etc.
A walk around is also good for a learning break.
True, but it is also important for students to associate those departments with a face, and hopefully that person is someone who can direct students not onthrough thier departments but to others as well.
Helping students the first dat will elieviate their stress
Campus tours are a good way to show students around and also keep the orientation on track. J.P.
knowledge is power. The more the students know (or have access to)then the more comfortable and at ease they may be. The school giving the students access to numerous resorces can only help them suceed.
David--
I agree. A face to go with the department can really help.

Not only does it help to know where the departments are, but a rep from each department should be at the orientation....the student should have a "contact" in the department that they can feel comfortable going to.
John--
A map is a great idea...one that many of us don't think about including in the orientation packet. Great suggestion.

We want students to be excited to come to school. By establishing a friendly atmosphere and ensuring that students know where they need to go, they will be comfortable in their new surroundings and more excited about the experience.
They will feel lost in the school with outm know where they are going, a map or layout of the school would be helpful

Good point. Sometimes they not only don't know where they are, but that they exist! Orientation can be a great way to introduce them, their services and location.
