Orientation
At our school, the Instructors have nothing to do with orientation. The entire orientation is conducted by department heads. Whether or not this is good has not, to my knowledge, ever been questioned, or discussed.
Currently we have very few instructors involved with our orientation. We are in the process of reviewing our current orientation and revising where apllicable. One area has to do with this initial introduction. That friendly connection at the very beginning really makes a huge difference to the students feeling like they have someone to lean on.

I really like the mini orientation idea.

We also have a mini orientation, to show the area that they we be in as well as go bad over the rules
Armando--
Making a smooth hand-off from admissions to the faculty is very important in retention efforts. If you aren't involved in the admissions process or the orientation, do you have some other ways of introducing students to the academic component prior to class?
Susan
We also have very limited amount to do with the enrollment and orientation process they are a different department.. i beleive we should be involved somewhat
It seems to be working good, the way it's done. Then at the beginning of each course, we have a mini-orientation for that course. Our process is a lot different, but it works good.
