Class picture
There are always a few students who do not like thier pictures taken, they hide or have to do something goofy during the picture.
I used to take a class picture after the first week of class. Many students did liked it.
I would make a few copies on our black and white printer on plain paper and pass them out.
What is harder is taking individual pictures. I won't try that one again! Some students flat refused to have thier picture taken.
Most students liked a class picture but I dropped the practice because of the objection of a few.
Taking a class picture and reflecting back at graduation is a great idea. Were there alot of objections?
We take individual pictures at orientation for ID cards that can be used out in the community for discounts. We also provide the instructors with the photo sheets so that they can quickly learn student names. I like the idea of a class picture to make them feel more like family.
Dawna,
Privacy is an issue; but allowing students to elect not to be included should resolve this. If everyone in the class agrees then they are making that decision.

I honestly have never thought about taking a class picture. There are so many privacy issues involved in everything these days that I am not certain how acceptable a class picture really is. I do know that having pictures of each of my classes would be enlightening to me to look back at after the class is complete and to put names with faces. This may be something that I consider in the future, but I am so paranoid about privacy issues that I don't believe I will make the decision anytime soon.
I have had a great experience with class pictures. I have done this in the past when we are on field trips. So many students have asked for those pictures even years later, great memories.
I believe I will try this with my next class, but I certainly will steer clear of the individual pictures.
I definitely think this is a great tool to use in helping students to feel comfortable and welcomed into their program. It gives them a sense of belonging and can be a great motivational resource.
I do take classroom pictures and my studends see how much they have grown.
Class pictures are a great opportunity to get to know each person in the class. I have some students who do not like to have pictures taken. Most of the time if they have encouragement from their peers, they usually give in and go with the flow. I don't want anyone to feel uncomfortable, but most appreciate it towards the end of the course to see how far they have come.
Josephine--
Very true! Students like to see themselves with classmates and remember how far they have all come.

I plan on taking a class picture during orientation and during some classes in hopes that it will solidify a sense of belonging.
We plan on posting them on a community bulletin board.
Taking pictures of your class together gives them a feeling of strength and togetherness. Each time they pass by their pics, it makes them all talk about who is still working hard to move forward and who didnt make it.
I use to take a class picture first and last class day, students like it
I also used to take class pictures and the students seemed to like it. I have stopped this practice - for no particular reason.
