STUDENT SUPPORT
STUDENT SHOULD BE ABLE TO FIND SUPPORT FROM THE INSTRUCTOR AS WELL AS THEIR FELLOW CLASSMATES.IT SHOULD BE TEAM WORK IN THE CLASSROOM.
I agree, if the student does not find the support--this makes it difficult and a harsh learning enviorment.
Pamela,
Sounds like a great plan. I really like the liasion student idea!

Team building activities are very important during the first few week of a new class. Providing at least one lecture on the benefits of team work is a must, we use the geese parable to give a visual of how teamwork helps all to succeed.
Another technique that we use is to have the class select one student who will be the liasion for ensuring that all students are notified when there are changes to the schedule or be responsible for getting assignements to students who are absent.
We also encourage study groups, we tried to establish support group meetings facilitated by faculty but the meeting were not well attended and students did not seem to have much interest in attending.
sadie,
Do you have any specific activities that help to build the support from classmates?
