my students
my students motivation is good grades and candy in class
For motivation, each student will receive a certificate for perfect attendance or for maintaining a grade average of 90% or higher.
For all the students a special day is planned with games and food, called Student Appreciation Day.
My students call me the "ham" because I am alwasy dancing, acting, singing, in class. But they remember that more than when I just make a statement.
Patrick,
So true! It is proven that we actually learn/retain more information when we are happy, so keep up the humor!

I use candy as well, but I have found humor also helps. I have been described akin to Patch Adams (I have never seen the movie). Some of the techniques that I use include parables, pertinate jokes and meaningful antectodes. As one student told me "they enjoy coming to class because it is fun" , but they also have stated that they learn so much and remember it better because they think of the joke that took their attention.
Another motivation for students are I give my students stickers on anything 85% and better they get so excited and brag about how many stickers they have
Juwana,
Excellent! After all, the classroom is a place where we practice and acquire new skills. Mistakes are part of learning.

My students motivation is ecouragement. instead of tearing them down i build them up even when they make mistakes. When they make mistakes I tell them that to err is human and give them an example of when I have made the same kind of mistake in the real world and let them know what I did to correct it. That lets them know that even as a professional you will make mistakes but you have to learn from them and not repeat them over and over
ah yes the famous candy. about once or twice a week i open a class discussion with questions generating directly form the material covered that week. best answer always gets a little treat.
