student support
It is very important for students to exchange information with one another just in case some one needs to car pool or is sick and can provide them with info they missed.
Elizabeth,
Sometimes having a list available of all local resources, by category is a nice sheet to have handy.

I have a map of the area and have students post their general local and willingness or need to carpool. As well as, as the forms they may need to fill out some time while enrolled. It seems when the resources are at hand, they feel better inquiring about them. Any other ideas when dealing with the need of community support on top of what the campus can provide?
I like to build teamwork among my students right from the start. I encourage them to form study groups and to encourage each other. I think that helps build a support system for students, many of whom have no support system at home.
I agree with your idea of exchanging information. I always do an introduction at the very beginning of class to break the ice and bring up our attendance accountability at our institution. I encourage students to keep the line of communication open and let them know they can help each other succeed.
I agree, student support covers a wide range of issues or concerns. Good communication and a supportive campus faculty can make a big difference in a student being successful
