first week late Enrollments

I belive the teacher should have a conversation with student and discuss their porformance and attendance, and encouragement should be given

Nuance,

Agreed. In the perfect world, we wouldn't have students come in too late to the start of the course. The second best scenario is that we have a plan to catch them up without slowing down the rest of the class. It is a difficult balance to be sure.

The thing with late enrollments is that it sends you back a little bit trying to catch the student up and therfore other students complain.

This is a great tool to show your students you care about them indivdually. I usually call when they are not in class, but I like the idea of calling them and making sure they are doing ok. So many students will have concerns but will not ask during class, this allows them the oppurtunity to ask in a safer setting.

i make sure all students are aware of the school policies for late assignments and make phone calls to show my concern for the students success.

I try to contact each student individually during the first week they are in class to make sure they don't have any questions or concerns.

Some times it might be difficult to find the time to spend with a student who missed the first day or orientation. Maybe allotting some time for absent or late students when the schedule is written could help.

when a student is late in their 1st week i would begin by enquiring what circumstances caused their absence.showing concern will give the student a sence of comfort;then fill them in on information regarding class and campus.
