I always believed it should be mr or mrs because thats what you expect from them

I think that calling everyone by Miss, Mrs. or Mr. and last name is always a good idea. I may be old school but, I think it shows respect. The first time my neighbor’s child called me by my first name, or the cashier at the store, kind of put me off. I think students might feel the same way. Depending on their age.

That was what I was thinking. I can recall an awkward moment (or two) in which I addressed someone informally when I shouldn't have.

Thanks,

Carl

Carl--

This made me smile. I had a high school algebra teacher who always called us 'Miss' or 'Mr' and last name. We used to think it was funny, but I do think now that it set a tone for professionalism. When students get in the workplace, it is better to err on the side of more formal than not.

At our facility we go by Mister or Miss and I believe that the studentd actually prefer that. I usually call them by their first name to keep it informal but sometimes I will call them by there last name as well. If I take attendance I will either call them all by their first name or all by their last name, I don't want to mix it up because it may seem like you are singling someone out for no reason.
