Intervention

Student intervention should begin in the very begining at the first sign of distress of any sort. be compasisonate and caring as this goes a long way.

I agree that as an instructor we often have to use our won personal judgement or read of individual students and approach them in a manner that suits that student best.

Depending on the personality of the student this approach may not work. If the student is a very privite kind of guy he or she may shy away from this unwanted attention... It's our job and responsablity to asertain what approach will work best for each individual student.

This is a great idea...very time consuming, but probably well worth the effort so you could catch and address retention issues quickly.

i think it would be a good idea to meet with each student individually each week for the 1st term to see how they are doing in class as well as to see if they are having any issues.
