WELCOME STUDENT
THE FRIST DAY TO SCHOOL IS EXCITING FOR STUDENT AS WELL AS INSTUCTORS A NEW ENVIORMENT FOR STUDENTS AND NEW STUDENTS FOR INSTRUCTORS A TIME TO FORM A BOND THAT WILL HELP THE STUDENTS SUCCEED.
I agree, the first impression the student gets from the instructor will set the tone for that student.
All our instructors are in early that day directing traffic because our building is a maze! We also have a light bkfst spread and usually make the first day more of a meet & greet..so that the students get to know each other..we ask why they decided to join the program, what their hobbies are...Etc.. Then we reiterate the policies of the school & the program so we are all crystal clear as to expectations.
Again, the instructor needs to be the first person in the class and if possible, have some music playing until it is time for class to start for the person to feel comfortable to come in. Hands-on-activities seem to be more fulfilling for the student to enjoy than sitting and listening to lectures half the day.
The first day is exciting for both instructor and student. I usually will hang out in the hall way to see the new students I remember from orientation, because they might not know where a certain classroom is so I would walk them to it and talk to them to see how they are. If they are nervous just try to clam them down and reinsure them it is all good and tell them they will be fine and if they need to talk let them know where my office is at.
Hello,
The first impression always counts. Once students get a good vibe of the instructors, they will feel comfortable and welcomed. This will definitely play a part in retention.
