Buddy system

I really liked the idea of a buddy for students enrolling late. I've had these situations and orientation can be difficult. Most of my classes are small so that helps but pairing the new individual with someone seems very useful and a great idea.

I really like the buddy system and use this in all of my classes. I think that it shows the student your really care about them being successful and it also lets another student know that you are aware they are dong a great job in your class. It is a win, win situation

The buddy system works well in all aspects of college education.

Basic introduction and suggestions of common theads of interest by location, age, hobbies sometimes help form a buddy. I don't push too hard as students are allowed to interact with their own comfort zones for what ever reasons.

Lynn,

....and this is an excellent way to involve current students with the institution which helps with their retention! Great job!

In our program, each existing student receives a "little brother of sister" (a new student) to help and mentor. It has always worked well and they are assigned before the newbie arrives. Often the existing student can allay any fear...even if it is a misery loves company approach.

I agree with the buddy system as well. It's just like exercising; when one gets weak then the other can help to encourage the other. I encourage the students to exchange numbers and studey together as well. If someone missed the first day then their buddy can help them out.
