To retain........

Students that look forward to your class will tell other students.

Katherine,

Injecting humor is important, especially when teaching about topics that even the teacher finds tough to get excited about. Finding ways for student to learn the material that does not require a lot of class time could be helpful.

Jeffrey Schillinger

Sometimes the information I teach can be flat as well, but I find if I do something funny and use word association they are more likely to remember that content.

I have often said to my instructors:

"If your class has value, the students will crawl over dead bodies to get to your class"

It all begins in the classroom.

Chris,

Jokes are a great way to keep interest in the classroom. Anything that is utrageous, audacious, and/ humorous will gain more attention and students are more likely to remember that content.

I often tell jokes in the classroom to keep the students attention. The material I lecture on can be a bit flat a times, so its important that the I find entertaining methods for delivering the lecture matierials.

Charles,

Making learning fun is very important I believe. There are many subjects that the content is not very fun, so the interaction in the classroom must be fun.

I have experienced This also. Students ask me what my next course will be.
Hoping they are in the class.
If you make learning fun for them. They show up every day and don't want to be left out.

Mike,

It is that simple to have a high retention rate; be caring, truthful, and mentor.

I agree with this as well. My retention rate is high and I have students asking to be in my classes and what other classes I instruct.

I completely agree with this statement. I come across this everyday. Students tell me they hopr to have certain instructors and absolutely dread the thought of having others just based on what they have heard from their friends.

James,

I am sure the certain instructors that studens hope to have in class again are intelligent hearts. Someone who truely cares and wants to see the students succeed.

I agree, too. I have some students who tell me they hope to get a certain instructor and many other students who say they hope they never get certain other instructors.

Brian,

This is a very good statement and a true one. Several times students who enjoy your class, asks for the classes you teach in the future.
