learn how to talk to the students as human beings
not students , nor kids, but as adults, and u will get there respect.

Alexandra,

What are some of the specific challenges these students present?

Jeffrey Schillinger

I agree however it is very hard when some student have entitlement issues

Craig,

This is very true. Sometimes we teach the way we were taught and have a difficult time adapting to others. This is why it is a great idea to have student tutors.

Joe, this is something we easily forget in a learning environment especially when overwhelmed with class demands and outside influences. We can tend to be short with them at time and not have patience if they don't understand something the first time it is presented. We often forget that we were them once.

It is not so much being friendly as it is letting them know that you have a genuine concern for their success.

Anthony,

Great Point! Simply being friendly covers several areas of this course; mentoring, intelligent heart, retention, attention, and so on.

hi joe, this is a great item that we tend to forget. some however try to be the freind instead of being the teacher. You can be freindly but not their freind

Jeffrey,

Accountability, praise, and expectations are all very important for students to learn and prepare for the workplace.

I agree joe and inrespect to treating them as adults we also have to hold them acountable for their actions and praise or disapline them as such. I feel it helps the student teacher relationship by being up front about expectations and keeping the student on even ground by meaning what you say, and holding them to it when the student crosses the line or give them an "attaboy" when they do well.

I agree the students should be treated like young adults

Joseph,
I agree as long as the student teacher relationship is maintained.
