Inspiring with vision
As instructors and mentors, it is important to present to the students a larger vision of what staying in school can mean for the goal of creating better and more productive lives for themselves, their families and the greater community. This will help them persevere when the road gets hard and obstacles build up.
In my class - I believe inspiring students that they can do well - will let them see the light at the end of the tunnel - whatever their career goal maybe.
I believe that a student needs to have goals in place, even at a young age. We need to be encouraging them that they can achieve thosa goals if they are willing to work at accomplishing them. However, no one is going to hand anything over to them. Plus, they will feel better about themselves, if they do reach those goals on their own. The whole secret to getting better, is to listen to someone that may have already made the mistakes, and is willing to share those mistakes with them, so that they don't have to repeat these.
