Mentoring
I agree that mentoring is the key to promoting positive behavior. As instructors we are leaders and role models for our students.

Craig,
Thanks. We used to call this "catching students doing something right."
I try to mentor by being encouraging to students that are unsure of themselves by pointing out their positive attributes. If they are struggling in certain areas I will use examples of some of my past experiences and struggles to try and have them look at situations in a more positive manner. Basically I try to get them to have more confidence in themselves and their abilities to overcome the adversities they are facing.
I believe truly that this really works, Show the students how they need to behave,in positive ways and also show them the reward. Not just for today but in life after school. Lead them to the path and then show then all the rewards they may reap.
Thanks, Jennifer.
What are two or three "mentoring behaviors" that you employ in your school?
