Model, Mentor, Monitor

An instructor who guides the student, showing she/he believes they will do well in ones studies, already works to helping the student succeed. By having the student practicing subjects several times and guiding and correcting them the instructor monitors and hold the student accountable to do well.

Larry,

The teacher is probably the most important "standard setter" on a campus, but other staff also need to realize they can be mentors, modeling expected behaviors as well.

I find that you the instructor, sets the standard. To me this is" The First Impression". As stated the students look up to you. You set the example. You are the Model. "The Buck Starts Here."

I instruct the new termers. A lot of these students do not know anything about nursing. It is a great opportunity to practice the 3Ms. I will answer the questions to ponder:Am I stretching myself like your students. No It is the time to work with them by starting off by being a role model. I encourage them to apply themselves to learning and listening to the instruct. I tell them when I first went to nursing school I myself did not know how to use a computer. An instructor at the college kept me after class and explained to me how to take notes, encouraged me to take computer classes. I felt good. This instructor really cared that I succeeded. I try to do the same for my "neebies"
Yes, I do have a high expectations what I can accomplish. There have been many of my students who have graduated from my class. All they need was caring and positive feedback.
Yes, I am aware that my thoughts impacted my success. I feel that the modling, mentoring, modling and monitoring that my instructor provided to me help me to be successful. Therefore I use her as a model for my success with my students. I truly believe that "Repetition is the mothering of all learning." I employ this with my teaching, but I tell my students it is my way of getting them to retain the knowledge provided to their learning.
