I agree... so, what would happen if academics linked with the admissions rep? What would the story be and how would the student feel about his or her school?

I agree. Let me also add that once a student starts school, they should be encouraged to work with the academic staff. Admissions reps should stay in touch from time to time, check in periodically so their students feel the school has their best interest in mind(cradle to the grave) so to speak.
I truly believe that if the academic department created an open dialog with the admissions representatives, this would be a win win situation. Admissions reps should feel free to pick up the phone or walk over and ask the academic department (teachers or admin staff) any question (s) that need clarification. There must be a level of trust between both departments. Product knowledge meetings for both departments could be one way of sharing information concerning both processes.
The admissions rep. is the first person to contact the student on behalf of the school. He should have a handle on what motivated the student to come to the school. ifthe rep. has an ownership relationship with the student, he should follow up with the student in partnership with his current instructors. When problems arrise the student can feel that there are several people in the school who are on his team.
Most schools are now linking academics to enrollment. They work as a team to enroll students. This way, the student hears the same story.
