Orientation programs help to set expectations. See what you can learn.

Excellent. Campus presidents usually help the school to improve retention. The key is to form relationships so that trust can be established.

Our school utilizes an orientation program using student services, administration, teachers as well as a visit from the campus president. We use existing students to show new students around and get them their books and introduce them to the school.
To be honest with you, I don't know. I have no idea what kind of orientation program we have here.
Perhaps they could have a meeting with the instructors and go over just what it is that they do.
Good. Do you involve career services and link their programs to careers?
Dr. B
our school has an orientation that involves all new students and the departments they will need to interact with
Yes, state expectations in a clear manner and then follow-up. Students like consistency.

Where i work we have a good orientation program. We have managers and workers from all the different departments at the orientation so the students can put a face with a department when they need help.
It also works well in telling students what is expected of them and the consequences for there bad behavior.
We need to bring in current students to speak with the new students. This is a great idea that is not being used at our campus. It would be nice for the new students to get a feel for what it is they have signed on for. I am trying to institute it now and hope I am successful by the spring start. It would also be nice to have employers speak with the new students to let them know what is out there for them.
We currently do not have a mentorship program in our school. That would be something for management to address. I can see how it could improve retention.
Our mentoring is informal, but being a "hands on" auto collision repair school it seems to occur naturally.
We currently have an orientation program, but I feel that it is too quick. It well planned, but I do not think an hour is enough time to cover so many things. A lot of the topics that were discussed that can be included into orientation are not done until the student's first day. For many students, that is too late. If orientation was a half a day it would help to allow that all information has been passed and there would be no surprises for students on their first day of class.
We have a orientation program at our school but what I reallly think would help is the student mentoring program. This seems like it would really help the new students to be able to talk with someone who has ben in the same situation that they are now expieriencing. The mentor would be able to epathise with the new student and help make them feel more at eaze.
We have an orientation program in our school, I feel it works weel , We as instructors are told not to ineract and have these typpes of relationships with our students, and to tuern them to the student services department. Its call fratiniztion I suppose and we can be fired for it? CARING???????????????
WOW what a plan
Our orientation program can be improved by broadening the process with more involvement from various departments. We should have a multi-step approach that lets the student interact with members of the departments of housing, financial aid, employment services, and a student advisor. We should also include a small group meeting with a hand-picked student/mentor to provide a tour of the campus and provide meaningful insight into student life. These things alone will not only make the student more comfortable in their new surroundings but will also provide them with a sense of valuable contact information. Knowing who to ask for help with financial aid, counseling, housing issues, etc. will only help to alleviate some concerns from the student to improve their level of academic success.
Deal with the issue of "professionalism" as early as possible. Ort and other times... why? You need to remind that that be a professional is what it is all about... if they want to advance in their new career.

I agree that school riles, policies and expectations should be the focus at orientation. A student that arrives for class with excessive facial piercings and radical hair cuts or offensive tattooing is going to have a difficult time in our program. They need to told no later than orientation that our appearance standards do not allow it and there are no exceptions. So often they will test the water only to be sent home. The use of cell phones and other devices should be made clear at orientation.
Our school does a great job of orienting our students. The first few days of their initial theory class is called "Jumpstart" where they learn about the school, the industry and what it's going to take to succeed in the field.
Sometimes, orientation is geared too much toward administration. The key is to help the students to believe that they can succeed... and when they complete their degree, they will probably improve their standard of life.

I beleve that during our orientation the students need to be made more aware of rules of the school , and what will be expeted of them as far as behavior and attendance during the school period.doing this , they would not be shocked by reality.
