Mentor

It is important for each student to have a mentor.

It is important for anything in life to have a mentor. Someone you can go to that has been there and done that. I know that a mentor can not solve your problems, but can guide you in the right direction.

Mentoring is an excellent retention tool, I have seen it used with our 6 weeks to success students and the relationships continue; the students feel connect to other students. I teach career development and I ask my students to find a mentor in their field of study.

I agree. Our instructors act as mentors which can change a students life, literally. We also have student mentors that are led by a lead student mentor. They wear a blue cravat instead of the white ones all the other students wear. Student mentors provide assistance with any questions students may have, tutoring, volunteering for events and NSO's. The student mentors are carefully chosen and are high achievers. These student mentors may not have the same impact on a student as their instructor's, but they're equally as important.

We have not set up any type of mentoring program in our institution, but this module has given me valuable insight about looking at formal and informal mentoring.

Great teachers are also great mentors. Mentoring is usually done before and after class so if a teacher is willing to put in the extra time it shows their commitment to the field. The students recognize this commitment and are inspired by it.

Paul,

Mentors are the key to career success and motivation. I have the same feeling about mentors.

Dr. Larry Banks

As I look back on my career, I owe a very large part of my success to my mentor. If it weren't for him, I honestly feel I would not have progressed as far in the same time frame.

Danielle,

Mentoring is the best way to build trust. And trust, equals retention.
