Bridging the Gap

What methods have been used to help ease the transition of student expectations when starting school?

Ty,

Instructors have so much more to do with retention then anything else at the school.

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

I also think that instructors are very important because the students interact with the instructors most.

I think one of the best things is also having a small, short orientation at the beginning of each term that the instructor can conduct. It helps ease student stress when they know what to expect.

I think instructors play a major role in setting the expecatations for their classes, they need to be clear and concise. I believe that students want to do well and to please the instructor.

I totally believe in mentoring programs especially hooking up successful established students with new students. The new students gain so much from a positive association with an established student.

FELICIA,

A couple methods... mentors/advisors... meeting other successful students... a teacher.
