Keeping Students Attention
Keeping Students Attention is Key to keeping them coming to class. Interaction is also a good way to have them get involved.
I find that if students can see the value of their training, they will come to class. The more hands on activities they can do will keep them excited and in class.
Chasity,
The games engage the students. A good addition.

I keep my students engaged with fun games.I create bingo cards with definitions or vice versa.. They really enjoy it..
joseph,
What is your best practice for engaging with students?
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
Engage with the students during their learning skills and knowledge helps to improve their confidence which leads to positive motivations for the career they have choosen.
Stephanie,
What isn't best practice you have found to do this?
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
I try to engage the students by allowing them to participate in the learning experience.
Gina,
Gamification of learning is growing. Especially on the internet. Yet, "Jeopardy" is a relatively easy game to implement.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
I keep my students engaged with games to learn. i have them make flash cards with terminology & definitions & we review them in class. the last day of each week we break up into teams. we put all the flash cards in a bag & pull them out one by one and play "jeopardy". I've had great success with this....they really enjoy it. If a student gives an incorrect answer, the other team can steal points by stating the correct answer and providing more info ( signs, symptoms, disease process, management).
Elinore,
How do you bring excitement? Yes, if they are engaged they are learning.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
In my classes I like to make sure I am bringing excitement as well as real life experience to the classroom. I find students enjoy classes more and are more receptive to listening when they are engaged with the material. It's all about your delivery!
shaelyn,
Getting students involved does help the learning. Thank you for your post.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
I find it also helps to do little game breaks to help the retian what they just learned and get them up out of their chairs as well
I agree, students who do informational interviews with employers in the field and bring this information back to the class is very powerful and allows the students to be engaged in their own learning outside the class. It also teaches them skills that they might not have regarding the interviewing process.
Having students interact with each other and with the instructor at different points during lecture time and lab time helps keep the students focused and engaged with the subject being taught.
K.C.,
Self-directed learning of this sort truly involves the student at a higher participatory level than passive learning.
Ron Hansen, Ed. D.
I have found by engaging the students to participate in their own learning experience helps. For example, I have students bring in a newspaper article that is related to their field of study once a quarter. I then have them read it, and we discuss it. It is a great way for the class to interact with each other.
