Faculty involvement

I believe the establishing a bond with every student is key to retention. Before the start of each class, I like to share stories about my day at my dental office and would ask if anyone has anything they would like to share. This opens the communication door.

yes getting them to bond with the staff is very good for retention

I try to bring up one situation that had an impact on how our program trains them to handle it

Scott,

That breaks the ice and puts them at ease. Good start to the class.

Ted,

Yes, it does and it is one of the things we do that makes career schools different.

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

Before I start class, I ask the students if they did anything interesting over the weekend or last night. We will usually have a quick laugh then we get to work. I don't know but the students seem to like it.

Integrating the working world with what students learn in class motivates and inspires them to succeed.

james,

Your experiences give the students a look into the real world.

Ron Hansen, Ed. D.

This is true. Students enjoy hearing real world situations about the field they are interested in. This further excites them about being in school and opens up communication and dialogue.
