Hiring graduates as instructors

We've made the effort to, when possible hire graduates as instructors. This allows the students to put a face to success in our field, it also helps because students know that the instructor has been in the same position as they are (they know the demands of the program).

It's actually been refreshing for students to see that grads who have gone on to achieve personal success have the loyalty to this institution and in some, it's re-focused and re-energized their efforts.

We've also integrated a graduate panel into our open house schedule of events, it builds excitement for prospective students when they hear stories of success and can speak candidly with people who have gone through the program.

Harold,

Try to get them to share workplace/war stories. This tactic will help you to improve retention.

We have a number of instructors that have been hired back to be instructors that were former students. These instructors usually have been out in the field for a number of years and have returned to give that Knowledge to the new upcoming graduates.

Ian,
Awesome. This gives you empathy.

I currently teach at the school which I graduated from and feel it has been very useful because you can give them some tools you have used not only in the field but what you used to get through all the challenges they will face while still in school. Also if as an instructor you had a bad experience while still in school you can do your best to make sure that your students won't have that same experience.

I think it is great to hire graduates as instructors. Someone who we know received a great education to pass on to new students.

Our school also has a number of graduates who work for us. They are a great addition to our team, as well as, being motivation for our current students. I think it's nice for them to see not only can they go to school to be a Medical Assistant, Surgical Technologist, etc., but that they may also have the opportunity to teach. It's great to share where our graduates are, so that current students see other possibilities for employment.

Our school quite a few graduates. The students seem very impressed by that.

Good. Use what you know to establish empathy. Then, form a relationship of trust and advise on career themes. This will help your school's retention.
