Positive is one of the key themes of any learning environment. Each student is so eager to achieve yet uncertianty can be a big barrier. If we are supportive and positive toward our students they will react to situations with greater willingness knowing this is a learning environment that will guide with freedom and creativity.
Awesome. You are right on track.

I started last semester to incorporate into course lectures how this particular lesson or skill makes the student more valuable to an employer. At first, I didn't receive the feedback I was expecting. After I mentioned this several times in the course I received questions from students on how a particular math skill was used on the job. The light bulb went off in my head and paid a visit to other program instructors to learn what I could do to prepare the student for their class. If the student takes only one piece of information with them that will keep them in school, then I have done my job.
I think that not only does the instructor have an influence on the student but the atmoshpere and learning environment as well. Positive breeds positive.
