If you have a student that just does not get it they may need to retake the class. I know of students that have had to retake the class and then come back and thank the instructor.

It can be very easy to make judgments about students. I always reach out to my students to find out what is really going on in their lives. More often than not, they are going through some major issue that is effecting their ability to finish the class work. Once I am aware of the situation, I can brainstorm with the student to come up with a solution and an action plan.

I am not sure all teachers would agree with your position. Some would say that once in a while a student "deserves to fail" becasue of something the student did or did not do. How would you respond to a peer who takes this position?

In our industry (Marine technician) "come backs" are one of the worst things that we can have in a dealership. The same can be applied in a class room. If we have a student that fails, then he has to repeat a course. This can be a bad reflection on ones teaching methods and retention methods. Bad for business!

customer service is the biggest difference between successful business and non successful business. We are no different. The better we are at our customer service, the better our chances of not only keeping our customers (retention) but also using this positive to get new ones.
