making a difference

Regards,

Always good to make a difference to the extra mile for our students and make them feel important so they are comfortable in our school, I always attempt to make my students feel comfortable in class and they have better results.

Always best to make sure students are confortable with u and come to their own conclusion always stay open and stern

Lisa,

What are the things you find most effective? In other worrds, what do you advise new faculty members to "remember" to build positive, professional relationships with students?

Jeffrey Schillinger

I think rememebering things about a student is very important in showing them you are paying attention and they are important.

Yes, and one way I make them feel comfortable is to great them each individually daily. Especially when I learned their names immediately.

I agree I see students each day in our Learning Resource Center and they come with alot of questions just taking the time to stop and listen and be concerned about their personal struggles makes a huge difference then they don't feel alone.

This is a great point, often our energy is infectious and students thrive when we are energetic and enthusiastic about what we are teaching.

Pay it forward. I can make a difference in someones life with the smallest thought, touch or smile. By this the student knows you really care.

I agree making the extra mile can change the life of a student having a positive attitude if the students are ready to listen and learn from your experience

Charlotte,

General education courses can be challenging as that is not why students typically come to a career school. Adult students need to see applicability to their potential career choices.

As a math teacher in a culinary school, students are often scared of my course and do not understand why they need to take it. I make sure I get to know each of my students individually so that I can cater the material to their interests and futures. By showing that I care about them on both the academic and personal level, and that I am their biggest academic supporter, they are able to see the relevance and value in my course and why an education as a whole is important.

Creating positive energy in students, will motivate them to stick to their goals, and become successful to accomplesh their goals

Farley,

These are important things. Keep doing them.

Jeffrey Schillinger

Getting to know little things about my students in class and remembering them makes them know that not only do I care about them and their success but it shows that I am taking a vested interest in who they are as a person rather than just another number on my roster. I try to get to know middle names or their pet's names and remember things like that that I can recall many classes down the road.

We must realize we do make a difference when it comes to our students,so our actions should always be positive so the difference we make will be in the positive direction.
