customer service

Teachers should see themselves as offering good customer service to th students and to the administration.

At our prospective campuses, our students are indeed our customers. If it were not for students, we would not have a job to do. Thus, it is important to treat our students with the utmost respect. Being polite and courteous and taking the time to find resolutions to their problems exemplifies good customer service. In regards to customer service, not ever customer experience is pleasant but we have to maintain the utmost professional standards when dealing with negative experiences, even with our students. In the end, they are still our customer and we must do our best to satisfy their needs and in the best manner.

Dan,

As in any business, referrals are the best ways to get new customers. "I was once asked by a veteran administrator "what did you do today that your students will tell folks about?"

It is very important to remember that we're providing a service to the public. I find that it's easy to forget that while teaching, But I try to keep it in mind and provide the best possible experience to my students in hopes that they will tell others of their experience and that in turn will result in more enrollment's.

Customer service is one big key factor I think in getting students. If you have good customer service, that brings in business. Word of mouth is one of the best form of advertising

Erica,

Thank you for this post. What are some instructor behaviors that clearly demonstrate that teacher respects the students?

Jeffrey Schillinger

I believe the students need to be treated with respect and well.

Thanks,Cheryl. You ake a good point here. We may not alays hav the resources a student needs to address an issue, but we need to know how to get them to those resources. Some institutions contract with counseling services to support their students. They work well.

Effective customer service results in student retention and student referral. It is imperative to listen to students and assist them with their concerns. It is important to assist students with their problems and/or refer them to people who can properly address their concerns. The staff must have the tools to assist students and the freedom to offer assistance with a smile.

Ways to build customer service with students: Establish a rapport with your students, allow them to express their needs, make an emotional connection through empathy, acknowledgement, and being fully present in the moment.

Dr. Rogers

Jean,

How do you define "good customer service" as it relates to the classroom experience?
