Be friendly

Just saying Hi and showing interest in them in the hallway creates a foundation forthe future

i agree take five or ten mins of your day when a student come in your room looking or asking for help in whatever it maybe

If I am walking up the hall next to a student, i will always try to strike up a conversation. even if i dont know the student i ask them how things are going. I just try to show them that someone cares about them and how they are doing that day. one of the fun things i did in the hall was National High Five Day, look it up. the students got a real kick out of it and it required little effort from all.

Paul,

Sometimes students just need someone to listen.

In my short time here i have gained a certain respect and friendlyness from the student population, They feel i am a comfort spot to share things with and try to help them (whomever) with what may be bothering them. It is all new to me but i see how it helps them through the days. Stay friendly but not friends.

yes i agree. that simple hello how was your weekend goes a long way

John,

We should always wear a smile, be ready to listen, and encouraging in all situations.

Being friendly is sort of a job requirement whenever you are working with other people, and especially when working with students who are growing and learning.
Always wear a smile and be ready to listen and be a good listener. Always be encouraging not discouraging. Remind the student how far they already came, and that they only need to go a little further and they will meet thier goals.

Being friendly is the most important key to sucess. Taking a genuine interest in what they drive, where are they from, how was your weekend, things of this nature really helps to bring the class together and creates a good learning enviorment. If they sence that you are here just for a pay check, things can get rough in a hurry!

This is true, and I also like to use the first 10-15 minutes to discuss the students activities over the weekend, or just ask if anyone is having any difficulties with information in class.

I always start my day by asking how everyones evening was. If they say good or bad, we'll talk about why. I like to joke or screw around the first minute or two just to set a light mood. I smile and greet each student.

just being approchable even if they aren't your student makes a big difference in attitude. i have had student call instructors jerks just because the stdent said hi and got a blank stare back.

There is nothing better than eye contact and a smile to help form a positive first impression.

Being friendly and approachable is great too
! Make eye contact with each students and let them know you are looking forward of seeing them in your class . Makes a great first impression also .

Just smiling creates a positive pleasant environment which suggests you are approachable.

I always notice that students know certain instructors even if they have never had them for a class. When you are light hearted and aware people want to be around you and it makes you approachable.

Even just a smile has impact with students. It causes a synapse in the brain!!!

Greeting every student when we meet is very important. It shows you care and that they are in a place that cares they are here. I find the more you talk to or show interset in a student that they my cone to you knowing you will help with there problems they my be having.
