Try to keep the motivated and incourage them along the way
This is a simple, but effective thing to do. Thanks!
I have to keep reminding myself how important it is to compliment students. Even a positive comment about his/her uniform helps.
Good question, Robert.
Sending them toward another career should be a last resort. Sometimes it may take lonking the struggling student to other resources, including other students, who may be able to get through in a way we sometimes cannot.
What do you do when a student just doesnt get it? What if you have tried many times to explain something, used examples, pictures, hands on and still they fail to grasp. When do you tell them maybe they should look towards another career?
Every student needs different motivation. It is our job to find that motivation and capitalize on it. This relates to different learning styles and learning rates. treat each student as an individual.
One of the best ways to keep students motivated and to provide sincere encouragement is to "catch them doing something well." We need to provide consistent positve feedback, even when a student is not doing as well as we would like the student to do.
Focus first on the positive, then provide constructive feedback.
