Team work

When you work as a team not only will you improve the retention but it will also make it a better place to work

This is so true. When the organization works as a team, it shows the students the benefits of working as a team in class and in the future.

Feeling like your part of a team has a huge effect on morale and keeping students involed as well. I try to keep students informed in what is happening in the industry that will effect what they plan on doing. How their training during classes will help them in the feild. Help them understand what the mission of the school is and relate to what there goals are.

I completely agree with this. I try to make students understand that they will be involved in the patient's circle of care and that this requires team work.

I like to break up the class in groups. They remain in those groups in the class room and in the lab. They are all responsible for a group toolbox and test equipment and work together to solve lab problems and then present their findings as a group.

I find this dynamic develops team pride, cooperative learning and cohesive group problem solving skills. I believe that students learn from each other, which further expands my arsenal of teaching methods.

Eugene,

How do you inspire your students to focus on helping each other?

Getting some of these students to work to gether through out a course can sometime be a challange, but kepping them focused to help one another is easier then most think.

I have encountered negitive thinking and comments from co workers. I try to be the mediator, maybe not directly, but indirectly by trying to point out the positive and changing the direction of negitive discussion. This is also true of negitivity among students. We often talk of not drinking the "bad" water. It takes a consious effort sometimes not to fall into that trap.

Team work is the way to succeed in everything that you do without team work you cannot finish everything by yourself.

Thanks, Shaun. What type of "team building" activities do you do with your students?

yes the instructors as we'll as the students should be a team it will help the whole attitude.

Marvin,

Thinking of yourself as part of a team goes a long way toward building a successful career college. How do you make your students feel that they are part of the team?

My team mates and I watch over each others shoulders and if we see anything that needs attention we bring each others attention to it.
This really helps so we dont miss anything

Jay,

You are correct. It is important to do all we can to make students feel like they are part of something important - part of the team. It is difficult to quit something if we feel we it is important and worthwhile.
