Yes, approachability and sincerity are so important in the establment of trust, respect, and credibility. Wise instructors learn that students are individuals, with a variety of personality and academic dynamics that could potentially interfere with the instructional process. Therefore, doing all we can to create an "environment of access" makes for better student/instructor relationships.
