Challenges

Being thrown into online learning has not been easy.  As a dual language kindergarten teacher, I had to figure out how to help my students maintain and continue to learn Spanish but I had to face the reality that many of my students would not retain the Spanish they had aquired.  I have done my best to provide recordings of Spanish lessons and encourage my students to continue to practice their Spanish but becasue this are 5 and 6 year olds it is ultimately up to their parents to continue to help them learn and build a strong foundation in any language.  When this all began I was in constant contact with parents who also had to figure out how to navigate the technology world in order to help their children.  Quickly I was able to realize which parents wanted to continue to support their child.  Sadly those same students that struggled throughout the school year are the same ones who I have had difficulty communicating with parents and getting them to help their child to continue their studies.  I realize that many families are struggling at this time but sadly the child is the one who will suffer the consequences.  These children who are already struggling to get to grade level and not being supported at home and have not continued with the online learning will continue to struggle and will only fall further behind.  It saddens me to not be able to further assist this children in their education.  I am also very impressed by the support and willingness of parents to go the extra mile to help their child.
