As any professor can testify, there are many types of students in the classroom. Each student comes with strengths and challenges. The angry student is the most challenging for me. I sometimes forget that it is more important to gain respect than to be liked. We all like the encouraging comments from our students. The student who, after the second day of class says that you are not qualified to teach the course makes one re-examine what was said and done that may have jeapordized the respect.
There is much to be learned about the verbal and non-verbal communication the professor has transmitted in and out of the classroom. Although we may be experts in our career field, we have much to learn about how to transmit the expertise into knowledge that the students are able to learn from.
I have learned so much from this course that will help me become a better communicator and teacher.
