becoming a good intructor

As a first time instructor i have learned that you need to show that you care for your students, and you are not there just for a paycheck. As an instuctor i show compassion towards my students, i do not become a friend, I just become an intructor who cares about them and cares that they pass the course, and i am there for them no matter what. I am a fair and consistent intructor. I want my students to suceed as becoming a great medical assistant. In me i want them to see a refleceted model of what they should be when they enter the workforce.

Agreed.  I offer my students a chance to respond in their journals about what they learned in class as their last assignment; I am always gratified - and often surprised at how much they share about what they have learned!  This means much more to me than "popularity contest" types of responses.  I want to keep learning about what works for my students and what students actually learn in my classroom.

I agree.  I don't find satisfaction in being told I'm a nice instructor because I am also a good instructor.

A good instructor does not do her job only for the paycheck.  She is passionate about teaching and compassionate with her students.  She herself coould not stop learning and improving so she gets better in her profession.  I'd say I am both good and nice, but I prefer that my students like me for the right reason--they learn from me and I make a difference in their lives.

I have been in this discussion for some time now, finished the Max Knowledge course months ago, but can't unsubscribe this blog. Can anyone help?

Jim
