Practice makes perfect
I have found that when I do an overview at the end of a lecture, and through out questions from the lecture or ask why this would happen with this, I get to gauge who is critically thinking, and who may need help!
I really believe that practice makes it perfect . I observe students in the first laboratory class , they strugle to follow the instructions , and after few classes they feel more confident on what they are performing. This stands for students as well as for instructors. My first lecture was not as good as the tenth or twentieth lecture
For me especially, as a math teacher, I need to see if students are able to comprehend and use new formulas and such as soon as possible. Giving my students time to practice each class period while I am there with them helps some students in clearing up any confusion, especially if they are shy about speaking out during the rest of the class.
I also think that in order to learn something new,you need to repeat, review, practice and reenforce this information again and again.I always review the prevoius topics before I start a new one,and at the end of the day,one last time before the class ends, the covered material is reviewd in key points, and students know the reason that what has been repeated for the upteenth time is important and not to be forgotten, specially if a topic is a complex one.
Yes practice does make perfect.
