Importance of scientific literacy in science instruction

It is true that planning and setting rules are essential and pay off, however it is crucial to consider that students’ thinking should be shaped since day one so that they can get actively involved in the process of acquiring scientific knowledge as
they feel motivated and interested. This can be accomplished by introducing the practical use of the scientific knowledge (Scientific literacy). Once the students realize that they can use scientific knowledge in daily life situations and associate previous experiences with the recently gotten scientific data or facts, they will certainly become more interested, motivated and knowledgeable about science. While scientific literacy is stressed by the teacher, students will develop critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities.

Thanks for your opinion. I absolutely agree. I believe plans should be part of instruction's foundation. More often than not I prompt students to rehearse in class activities, hands-on, and demonstrations.

I agree that it is a must to set plans and guide lines into motion from day one. With that being said, plans usually have to be tweeked to meet each students need, to insure succcess.  With out making allocations to and within the plan, you are not allowing or giving students a chance to develope and get involved
