On-Line Learning

Organization and a routine is key.

Simple instructions: re-read your instructions because sometimes it sound differnt in your head and you know what you want to happen, but it may not appear that way.

Keep the students engaged daily-don't dump on them but make them think about discussion questions and respond to other responses.  Keep them involved with not only their own work, but other's work as well.

A challenge is keeping them engaged and completing the work.  I would say that it is easier for the students to hear instructions, but this last year proved me wrong with that.  Listening or reading instructions seems to be a huge challenge with this year's group.

I know you don't want to be tied to your class 24/7 but having quick responses to student's quesitons helps keep their level of frustration low.  They will work on their work at all times day or night so at least make your availability for problems am and pm.  *just let them know when you are available.

Check the work immediately and get those grades in.  Nobody likes to guess at what they are getting and if they respect you by getting their work in on time, you should be respectful by correcting it in a manageble time frame.

Thanks for sharing information you learned from being an online teacher! It definitely helps the newbies like myself!!
