From time to time, seasoned instructors, in regards to continuing education, might feel as if they have "been there, done that" while engaged in faculty development training and activities. True, there is certainly content and applications from continuing education courses that faculty may already practice and utilize, but even as an "ole codger" in career education, I can usually walk away from a course or activity with a new idea or a different way of looking at something. One participant who completed the CEE course ED101 phrased it nicely in his blog,
I really enjoyed this module as it was a good refresher of materials for the valid instructor. Some times we forget the little things, the misbegotten steps it takes to grow and succeed. Sometimes the most valuable lesson is those we forgot or have grown accustomed to "forgetting". We as instructors must continually learn and grow at all times right beside our students. We can never know or remember enough or become complacent in our professional life - Marvin Harness
As Faculty Coaches, I hope that each one of us encourages our instructors to value ongoing continuing education and faculty development, even if it is a refresher, as an enhancement to our professionalism and our service to students.
