The Good Teacher

The good teacher knows and understands students, how they develop and learn. I know that students actively construct and transform their own knowledge based on past experiences and prior learning. I know that students do not all learn in the same way or at the same rate. I believe it is my responsibility as a teacher to be an effective diagnostician of students’ interests, abilities, and prior knowledge. I must then plan learning experiences that will both challenge and allow every student to think and grow.

Well said by the both of you!  All students are potentially good students.  A good teacher also knows how to create a "thirst for knowledge" in the student.  How that "thirst" is created takes all of what is described by both of you.

Well said.

The good teacher will balance a love of learning with the love of the students in his/her care.  Each student, group, mind is different.  Being able to approach a student how they need to be approached to maximize their learning is a special skill that can only be taught through time.

Great post!
